stables of the
castle of colle massari
cinigiano (gr) 2001
The stable of the Castle of Colle Massari is a completely new building made of wood and brick. It was not requested by the clients, but it was proposed to reinforce the eastern side of the property, which had been subject to landslides since 1700.

Above the stable made of bricks, there is a hay loft made of iron and copper, while the saddle room made of cedar wood saddlery is connected with the stable. The building is anchored to the ground with a dense series of micropiles, which helps to reduce the earth pressure by absorbing its energy. A solution that does not change the natural profile of the slope, while providing a simple, intelligent and effective solution.

The riding track marks the perimeter of the stable and allows rainwater to flow through a layer of gravel and sand to the lake in the valley below.
