restoration of the
stiacciaie church
arcidosso (gr)
2019Currently, the church is not accessible to visitors and is not used for worship, because its structure is in bad condition and the church is unsafe. The project, which recognizes not only the great artistic, historical and cultural value of the church, but also its strategic position as the “gateway” to the village, as it is the first building of architectural interest on the road the village, aims to make the church again part of the scenery of the village, to ensure it can be accessed by believers and visitors, and to make the church again usable for worship by reinforcing its structure.

In detail, the work planned to restore the church is divided into three stages. The first stage involves the restoration of the roof structure by repairing the roof layer and reinforcing the vault. In the stage, the base and the walls of the church are reinforced. The third and last stage involves the restoration of the plaster and the frescoes. The project provides for structural reinforcement with a low degree of invasiveness, in order to preserve the artistic and historical value of the church. As a whole, the structural reinforcement considerably improves the safety and stability of the church, while maintaining its original and historical character.
