The project for the library involves, in the first place, reusing the abandoned paper mill located on the watercourse that runs through the area. It envisages transforming the already existing paper mill rather than rebuilding it. The tree-lined area and the former paper mill are merged together through the “spontaneous” transformation of the places that hybridize each other. In this way, the new path of performance and knowledge is created by spontaneously walking through and exploring the area.

The reuse of the paper mill involves removing any additional elements that were added in the past. The large windows create valuable space where classics are collected and which is characterized by large rooms, indirect light and high ceilings; the long staircase will also serve as place where passionate collectors or experts in the field can read, study and meeting each other.

The large wooden portals, which serve as structural elements, blend with the twisted trunks of the trees in the forest outside, thus merging nature and architecture together in a single seamless space extending from outside to inside.

The shelves, seats and furnishings necessary for the library are intertwined in the supporting structure of the building: floor seats and full-height shelves are built-in in the edges and corners of the building.

The equipped outdoor areas are immersed in the woods for visitors to explore and can be reached through ramps or inclined planes placed inside and outside.
