The project simultaneously finds alliances with nature, technique and art to contaminate an architecture that not only participates in the ritual, but is able to structure it. The large tent roof made of aluminum shingles that welcomes and reassures even before entering, is a strong means of expression that inscribes the paschal mystery in the biblical figure of the pilgrimage, the traveling dimension of the Christian in the world who must live the ambiguity of two citizenships, that of the earth and that of Heaven.

The churchyard, a dense and cool orange forest that rearranges the context, represents a real initiatory path and becomes a dynamic and resting element, but also a line of defense against noise and atmospheric pollution, mitigating environmental overheating.

Natural light penetrates between the folds of the roof which in some points descends to the ground and becomes a structuring part of the ritual. Materials and colors are those of local history and tradition. Sicilian calcarenites, low thickness Sicilian travertine, colored lime in paste, flattened and smoothed and lava stone.

On the energy level, the project aims to create a NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) ensuring total self-sufficiency of the building with natural cooling and air exchange and a very low mechanical intervention for winter heating only, brought to zero costs through a passive energy contribution.
