first prize at the international sustainable architecture contest fassa bortolo awarded to the collemassari wine production facility
The work – a building with a clear shape and expressive power embedded in the rhythmic frame of the vineyards – consistently adheres to the theme of the competition. It proposes modifying the landscape heavily affected by human activity with an economic use of language.
From an environmental point of view, the new building tackles the problem of modifying the landscape without camouflage effects or stylistic features, by making contemporary architectural and technical forms highly consistent with each other.
The technological mix of natural and artificial materials appears balanced. Careful and appropriate attention was paid to the design of environmental elements (such as water, air, wind, light, shade), in order to control the microclimate inside the building by using natural methods.
Finally, the water cycling devices for reusing water from production activities to irrigate the surrounding land are smart and interesting.
