Rosalba Parrini | Art is Healing Poetry
From Friday 28 September to Friday 19 October 2018
OCRA – Creative Workshop of Living
Via Boldrini 4 – Montalcino (Siena, Italy)
With the patronage of the Municipality of Montalcino, the Permanent School of Living presents “Art is Healing Poetry”, an intense and captivating exhibition that lets visitors approach the creative poetry of Rosalba Parrini, an artist in constant search of stimuli to observe and interpret reality.
The painter writes: “…the things I experience and see, I express in the manner those very same things inspire me to. They capture me and keep me in their imaginary places, which are sometimes evoked by forms or colours, and sometimes by the sound of words or the musical meaning of their combination.
This is how images combine on a plane and in space, this is how, in my subjective creative and technical language, I create works. Regardless of their form of expression, works hold all the knowledge and emotions that stimulated their creation and made their very own creation necessary…”.
The exhibition does not include all the artist’s works, but the works on display are very different from each other in terms of technique and theme; they create a path that aims to show the artist’s personality and artistic sensibility. The works in the solo show exhibition originate from the continuous and dynamic search of stimuli and emotions that have always been essential to the artist’s life. The exhibition is divided into thematic sections that share the same aim of being the means through which the artist conveys an idea and establishes a direct and pure relationship with the visitors.
The exhibition is set up in the OCRA gallery and the adjacent rooms that open into it; it starts with four great triptychs interspersed with a series of recent works strongly characterized by a surreal / fantastic style. A section of the exhibition displays landscapes created with the “free use” of gold leaf and oxidized gold leaf.
The section displaying the canvases that the artist calls Games, i.e. paintings where the figurative and the abstract dimension are intertwined through spatial perspective, is interesting and particularly stimulating. These canvases change their shape and appearance as they can be arranged into different configurations like jigsaw puzzles, thus stimulating the creativity and imagination of the visitors.
Rosalba Parrini searches for the most suitable ways to express a certain idea at the right time, without ever hiding her emotions but, on the contrary, trying to show her own personal vision of the world, also through a vision filtered by the instantaneousness of the present moment. Her paintings and writings express an idea, a message, an opinion; Rosalba Parrini fights for freedom of expression, experience and knowledge. Her works, besides showing her deep technical mastery, do not give up instinct and emotion; on the contrary, they are based on them. The intense communicative power of both her paintings and her poetic language engulf viewers and convey them emotions and figures reminiscent of archetypal moods they can easily relate to. The exhibition also includes a collection of poems and writings, which are often closely linked to the figurative gesture of painting and which sometimes are reflections resulting from the emotion of a particular moment. Rosalba Parrini is therefore a complete artist with an undoubtedly strong and fascinating personality; it is difficult not to be enchanted and let oneself be carried away into the world filtered through her vision.
About | Rosalba Parrini
Rosalba Parrini was born in Siena, where she completed her first studies at the school of arts Duccio in Buoninsegna. She then continued her studies in Florence, where she graduated from the university of arts Magistero d’Arte in Porta Romana. During her stay in Florence (late ’60s), she came into contact with the artistic avant-gardes of the time: “Visual Poetry”, “Gestalt”, “Optical Art” and with groups of informal painters and abstractionists. In Turin, at the Albertina Academy, she improved her knowledge of scenography and scenic art and qualified to teach these subjects. She then moved back to Siena (late ’70s), where she worked with a group of people studying ceramics, thus acquiring the manual skills and dexterity necessary to mould clay. For many years, she taught drawing and art history at a high school in Siena (Liceo Scientifico G. Galilei) with passion and rigour, thus acquiring, also through her job, teaching experiences useful for her artistic career. In recent years, she has had the opportunity to express her artistic talent in a more mature and regular way. Her recent activities and exhibitions include a solo exhibition at the historical premises of the Municipality of Montalcino in 2015; the exhibition “Games, Stories, Battles” at the Salt Warehouses, in the Public Palace of Siena, in 2014; and painting the Drappellone (banner) of the Palio of Siena horse race in July 2014.
Rosalba Parrini is well known in Montalcino for painting the Trophy for the winners of the Thrush Festival in 2015, and for designing the catalogue of the works awarded (which is published every year) on the occasion of the contest Il Vignolo 2017.

The initial tasting is offered by farming company Tassi, a young winery which is part of the winemaking heritage of Montalcino and which stands out for high-quality cultivation and constant development of production. The wines produced on the slopes around the ancient manor house Velona are born from the passion of the Tassi family and have the full range of flavours from the noble land of Montalcino. Fabio Tassi, the manager of the company and promoter of the many food and wine events organised by the company, consciously interprets the new history of Montalcino, a medieval town that has become the symbol of a “dream life” on an international level.
