The convention
On Wednesday, 18 October, at 5:30 p.m., under the patronage of the Municipality of Montalcino, the Permanent School of Living organizes the convention “NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR HOSPITALITY FROM ABANDONED BUILDINGS”, an opportunity to talk about the place with a point of view aimed at dealing with depopulation, migration and hospitality.
There will be discussion about places abandoned because of earthquakes or depopulation, which can be used to house those who have chosen or have been forced to migrate.
Through a policy of widespread integration, hospitality can be combined with the revitalization of municipalities and villages that have been depopulated in the last decade: abandoned places can be changed into places of hospitality and hope.
Housing migrants is possible if institutions, bodies, associations, professionals and people choose to work together and have the courage to try to turn fear into an opportunity and utopia into reality. Buildings can be restored, and uncultivated land can be made safe and be used through self-construction projects.
The arrival of migrants must not be considered a social crisis, as it can become a driver of a paradigm of widespread hospitality with a positive economic and social impact on the host community, especially where there is a demographic decline and a housing market crisis due to many vacant houses.
