Given up at birth, Maggie Graham, the protagonist, grows up in the Boston (U.S.A) Catholic Orphanage under the tutelage of the mysterious Sister Mary Frances. With secrets of her own, Sister Mary Frances thwarts Maggie’s every attempt to discover the truth about her roots. After graduating college, Maggie sets off with her college roommate to spend the summer at her roommate, Angelina’s family home in Montalcino, Italy. It is at the graduation party the family holds for them that Maggie meets Roberto Genovese. Having grown up in an orphanage, family life is new to Maggie. She learns when she meets Roberto’s family how time and space has spanned for generations between families in Montalcino. As the story unfolds so does the Montalcino connection. “Life takes more twists and turns than the Sangiovese grapevines.” Life emulates the characteristics found in the roots of these ancient vines: deep, strong, entrenched in the soul and the very earth one calls home. Maggie and Roberto’s struggles are much like the roots of the vines that can only grow a healthy plant when struggling to take hold of the earth. Readers take the journey with Maggie as she and Roberto unravel her past and discover the secrets long held in silence by Sister Mary Frances. Will the truth bring them together or tear them apart?
Following the presentation will be offered a tasting of typical products accompanied by wines from local wineries.

Abbandonata alla nascita, Maggie Graham, la protagonista, cresce nell’Orfanotrofio cattolico di Boston (USA) sotto la tutela della misteriosa suor Mary Frances. Con i suoi segreti, suor Mary Frances contrasta ogni tentativo di Maggie di scoprire la verità sulle sue radici. Dopo essersi laureata, Maggie parte con la sua coinquilina del college per trascorrere l’estate nella casa di famiglia di Angelina a Montalcino, in Italia. È alla festa di laurea che la famiglia organizza per loro che Maggie incontra Roberto Genovese. Essendo cresciuta in un orfanotrofio, per Maggie la vita familiare e una novità. Quando incontra la famiglia di Roberto si accorge di come il tempo e lo spazio si siano intrecciati per generazioni tra le famiglie di Montalcino. Mentre la storia si sviluppa, aumenta anche la connessione con Montalcino. “La vita è determinata da più colpi di scena rispetto alle viti Sangiovese.” La vita emula le caratteristiche che si trovano nelle radici di queste antiche viti: profonde, forti, trincerate nell’anima e nella stessa terra che si è la loro casa. Le battaglie combattute da Maggie e Roberto sono molto simili alle radici delle viti, le quali possono crescere una pianta tanto più sana quanto più lottano per conquistare la propria terra. Ronald Krivosha lives in Bellevue, Washington with his wife, Linda. Writing has brought a new dimension to his life. For almost forty years, he spent the majority of his day as a Podiatrist and Foot Surgeon. He tells his friends that until he co-authored this novel, the longest thing he’d ever written was a prescription. Collaborating with Arlene Morgan on Roots of the Vines has opened the door to a whole new world.
Arlene Morgan lives in Rancho Mirage, California with her husband, Barry. Creativity has been an ongoing part of her life. She has written several short stories, one of which, “The Foam on the Sand,” was the seed for Roots of the Vines. Collaborating with Ron Krivosha has brought her life-long dream of writing a novel to fruition.
