When I designed Silvia and Giuliano’s house, I made as much space I could from intertwined rooms, niches and holes in thick walls dating back to the sixteenth century. It was an almost hidden renovation of a building that had been converted for several different uses at a frenzied and colourful rhythm over the centuries: the chapel of a monastery, an unfinished church, a tavern of questionable morality, the warehouse of a plumber and inventor, an almost kitsch restoration for a refined restaurant.
